It is very sad I will not be attending IMATS this year :'( even though this year they have made it in November instead of September. Its not the end of the world for me, as I will be going to Sydney in December :D Sephora here I come! I'd like to share my IMATS experience including the flight and our organisation prior to the event, as it was my first time going there I wanted to share my thoughts about it. I went with my close friend Linda for one day (yes only a day) and that was my only regret as we didn't have time to do sightseeing or shop in the city, not like we didn't shop enough in IMATS already lol.
At the beginning of Jan 14, I thought about doing something different that year and I thought to myself "IMATS" (ok I'm going to drain it with that word, sorry in advance) I asked Linda if she wanted to come with as she was studying to be a makeup artist at the time and she was also a makeup junkie like me. We organised ourselves and checked when the flight and IMATS tickets were ready to be purchased. I remembered when I went with my mum to the travel agency to book our flight to the US, the travel agent told my mum we needed to book our flight before the end of March as it was the flight industry's EOFY (I'm not sure if the agent was saying that to get a sale) so I kept that in mind and checked on Jetstar as I have never booked plane tickets before, I was worried the tickets will be much more expensive if we bought them at a later date especially during that time the kids will begin their school holidays.
I wanted to make a comparison and checked how much it will be if I purchased them in Jan and in Mar, when I looked on Jetstar the tickets were expensive in Jan. I then checked back at the beginning of Mar and the tickets were cheaper than in Jan, if you are planning to go with Jetstar keep in mind they are cheap but that is the price for a one way ticket the return ticket might be more expensive depending on what time you fly. This is also the price for carry on bags the checked in bags are $17 extra and food on the flight are not included.
The overall cost of the plane ticket was $340 as I paid for Linda this is including the price of the flight seats to and from Sydney which was $5 each. The IMATS tickets were available 6 months before the event and because Linda is a pro member she could buy the tickets earlier and get a discount on top of it, so my IMATS ticket cost $35. When the exhibitors list was available on the IMATS website we decided to check out their website so we can make a list and get an indication on the overall cost of our list, as we didn't know how much the discount were at the event.
Mind you we had 6 months to go lol so it was a very long wait, sooner or later the day have come and our flight takes off at 8:00am I got to the airport at 6:30am and Linda got there at 7:00am the security line was very long and we didn't get through the door till 15 mins later, we decided to get breakfast, while we were eating we decided to check out the IMATS map and decided on a game plan as to where we were going to go, as we had decided we go our separate ways she gives me her list and vice versa the reason why we did this is because I did my research on the previous Sydney IMATS the waiting line to buy products were 45-60 mins!
Prior to taking off I took some travel sickness pills then the announce came on that our flight was taking off in 15 mins we rushed and started running like chickens to locate our gate, we finally got to our gate to the front door and realised there was a long line. As we boarded the plane it took 1 and a half hour to get to Sydney, as soon as we landed I started vomiting because during the whole flight I felt sick and since I was little I wasn't a fan of flying, when I went to the US I didn't go to the toilet, move or eat for 18 hours :( so when I took my travel sickness pill I took it too late (biggest mistake).
When we got off the plane at 10:00am we quickly grabbed a cab the airport was not far away from the event, we finally got there and surprisingly the line wasn't long when we got into IMATS my heart was pounding so fast with excitement, we quickly gone our separate ways and I started lining up at Redefining beauty I waited for 30 mins and I forgot to mention my budget was $1,000 (yea went overboard) after I went to Sugarpill and let me tell you as it was the first time they were there I waited for 50 mins! Then I went to Velour lashes, Media Makeup and lastly Mac Pro my intentions were in the beginning was I wasn't going to buy anything at Mac but you know I couldn't help myself. It took us 3-4 hours to complete our shopping and we didn't eat! The last time I ate was breakfast but I vomited back up.
We decided to get lunch we ate at a Japanese restaurant nearby and I ordered twice from there as I was really hungry, we wanted to go maccas as I saw last years IMATS one of the girls on YouTube went to maccas after but we couldn't locate it :( we went back into the event but I was over it so we went back to the airport as I was going through security I got stopped by them as I had something sharp in my carry on luggage, I didn't realise at the time until he took it out I just bought the Sigma Brow Kit and in the kit it had scissors so he disposed it which I got a little upset, if I knew it wasn't allowed I wouldn't have bought the kit :/
Our flight back to Melbourne didn't take off till 7:00pm and we were at the airport at 4:00pm already we went to go buy maccas, browsed around the shops then we decided to be smart and find our gate we sat near the boarding gate until take off. We finally landed back in Melbourne and I was happy to be home. Overall I had a good time but as we learn from our mistakes we now know what to look out for and I would love to go back there in 2016. Unfortunately I didnt take any photos of the event as I was too busy trying to buy all of the makeup items on my list, the only item I couldnt buy which was sold out from all of the stalls was the Beauty Blenders :( I wanted to purchase the double sponges as currently I only have one backup left and for some reason they do not sell the double Beauty Blenders on any of the sites where I used to order them from.
